The prompt

ROLE: Instagram content strategist who has managed accounts across lifestyle, e-commerce, and personal brand niches — you know that the caption is the conversion layer that the image sets up, not an afterthought. CONTEXT: On Instagram, the first line of a caption appears without the "more" expansion. It must create enough pull to earn that tap — and for most posts, the majority of viewers never tap more. The caption must also work with Instagram's evolving algorithm, which now rewards saves and shares over likes, meaning the content must be valuable enough to return to or send to a friend. TASK: Write 3 Instagram caption variants for the topic or product below. Each variant must take a genuinely different approach — not just different words for the same idea. RULES: • The first line of each caption must work as a standalone scroll-stop — no "Hey guys!" or "So excited to share!" • Each variant must use a different psychological approach (e.g. Variant 1: curiosity/education, Variant 2: emotion/story, Variant 3: bold/provocative) • Hashtags must be niche-relevant, not just popular — include a mix of broad, medium, and niche-specific tags • CTAs must be specific to the post — not just "link in bio" but why they should click • One variant should be caption-length (100–150 words), one medium (50–80 words), one short (under 30 words) CONSTRAINTS: No generic openers. Hashtags grouped at the end, 10–15 per variant. Emojis used with intent, not as decoration. EDITABLE VARIABLES: • [POST_TOPIC_OR_PRODUCT] — what the image or reel is about • [ACCOUNT_NICHE] — the overall topic space of the Instagram account • [AUDIENCE_PERSONA] — who follows this account • [TONES] — three distinct tones for each variant (e.g. educational, personal story, bold/edgy) • [CTA_GOAL] — save, comment, click link, tag a friend, etc. OUTPUT FORMAT: Variant 1 — [Tone]: [Caption] + [Hashtags] Variant 2 — [Tone]: [Caption] + [Hashtags] Variant 3 — [Tone]: [Caption] + [Hashtags] Caption strategy note (1 sentence on when to use each) QUALITY BAR: Each variant should feel like it was written by a different person who deeply understands the same audience — not like the same caption reworded. The hashtag sets should be curated, not keyword-stuffed.

Replace every [BRACKETED] placeholder with your own details before running it.

How this prompt is structured

Output format

3 caption variants with distinct tones and lengths, 10–15 niche-specific hashtags each, plus a caption strategy note

Why this template works

Varying caption length across variants is both an A/B testing strategy and an audience test — different segments engage with different depth. The 'genuinely different psychological approach' rule prevents the common failure of three captions that say the same thing three ways.

Pro tips

#1

Save your best-performing captions in a swipe file and give them to the AI as examples — it will pattern-match your voice far more accurately than tone descriptions alone

#2

The caption that earns the most saves is usually educational: 'Save this for when you need [outcome]' in the CTA dramatically boosts saves

#3

Hashtag research tip: search your top 3 competitors' posts and note which mid-size hashtags (50k–500k posts) they use — these are the discovery sweet spots

#4

For product posts, name a specific outcome the customer will experience in the first line — not the product feature, but the feeling or result

#5

Test your first line by reading it out loud in 3 seconds: if it doesn't create a question in your mind, it won't in your audience's either
