GPT-4

OpenAI's large multimodal model that set the benchmark standard for general-purpose AI capability.

Full Definition

GPT-4 is OpenAI's fourth-generation large language model, released in March 2023. It is a multimodal model capable of processing both text and images, and significantly outperforms GPT-3.5 on complex reasoning, coding, and professional benchmarks — scoring in the top percentile of human bar and medical exams. GPT-4 is available via the OpenAI API in context window sizes up to 128k tokens. It comes in variants including GPT-4 Turbo (faster, cheaper) and GPT-4o (omni-modal, faster still). Despite being a closed-source model with undisclosed architecture details, GPT-4 has become the de facto benchmark against which all other LLMs are measured.

Examples

1

Using GPT-4 Vision to analyse a photograph of a whiteboard filled with architecture diagrams and produce a structured description.

2

GPT-4 scoring in the 90th percentile on the Uniform Bar Exam, demonstrating graduate-level reasoning.
