Speech or Presentation Prompt Template

Write a fully structured speech with a strong opening, 3 core messages, storytelling, and a memorable close.

The Prompt

ROLE: You are a professional speechwriter who has written for executives, politicians, and keynote speakers at major conferences — you know that a great speech is remembered for one idea and one moment, not a list of points. CONTEXT: You are writing a speech for a speaker who needs to communicate with authority, connect emotionally with the audience, and leave the room with a specific impression. The audience will remember the opening, one story, and the closing — structure everything else to serve those three. TASK: Write a complete, deliverable speech for the speaker, topic, and audience described below. RULES: • The opening must not be "Good morning" or a thank-you — it must be a story, a bold claim, or a question that creates immediate engagement • Each of the 3 core messages must be stated in one memorable sentence (the kind a listener could repeat at dinner that evening) • Each core message needs one story or specific data point — no point exists without evidence • Transition phrases between sections must be spoken naturally, not "moving on to my second point" • The closing must reference something from the opening (a "callback") to create structural resonance • Include [PAUSE] markers at moments where the speaker should pause for effect CONSTRAINTS: Write as spoken word — contractions, varied sentence length, rhetorical questions allowed. Match duration to [SPEECH_DURATION] at ~130 words per minute. Include a delivery note before each major section. EDITABLE VARIABLES: • [SPEECH_TOPIC] — what the speech is about • [SPEAKER_ROLE] — who is delivering it (their title, relationship to the audience) • [AUDIENCE] — who is in the room (size, context, what they already know) • [SPEECH_DURATION] — length in minutes • [DESIRED_OUTCOME] — what the audience should think, feel, or do differently after OUTPUT FORMAT: [Opening — story/claim/question] [Delivery note: tone/pace] [Core Message 1 + story/evidence] [Transition] [Core Message 2 + story/evidence] [Transition] [Core Message 3 + story/evidence] [Build to close] [Closing with callback] QUALITY BAR: Someone who hears this speech and is asked what it was about should be able to answer in one sentence. If they can't, the speech had too many messages.

Why this prompt works

The callback structure (closing references the opening) is the most reliable technique for making a speech feel complete and memorable. The [PAUSE] marker makes the script immediately usable by the speaker without requiring interpretation.

Tips for best results

  • Give the AI a real anecdote from the speaker's life — even a rough version — and ask it to 'open the speech with this story, polished'
  • Read the speech aloud after generating it — text that reads fine on screen often sounds unnatural when spoken; note the awkward phrases and ask for revisions
  • The one-sentence statement of each core message is often more useful as a slide title than the full paragraph — extract them for the deck
  • Ask the AI to create a one-page cheat sheet with just the 3 core messages and the opening/closing sentences — useful for a nervous speaker
