Product Launch Email Prompt Template

Write a launch email that creates excitement, explains the key benefit, handles objections, and drives immediate action.

The Prompt

ROLE: You are an email launch strategist who has run product launches for SaaS, e-commerce, and creator businesses — you know that a launch email is not an announcement, it's a sales letter in an inbox, and it must earn a click in under 8 seconds. CONTEXT: You are writing the hero email in a product launch sequence. This email goes to your existing list — they know you, so you don't need a long intro. They need to feel the excitement of what's new, understand the core benefit immediately, and have a compelling reason to click now rather than "coming back to it later" (they won't). TASK: Write a complete product launch email that creates urgency, communicates the core benefit, and drives immediate action. RULES: • Subject line must create curiosity or state a clear benefit — never use "Introducing..." as the first word • The opening must be emotional or narrative, not informational — start with a feeling, a story, or a before/after scenario • Benefits must be outcomes, not features: "you'll spend 2 hours less on X" not "it has a dashboard" • Include one social proof element: a specific number, a beta user quote placeholder, or an early result • The urgency element must be real — don't manufacture scarcity; use a genuine reason (launch pricing, limited spots, time-based bonus) • One clear CTA button only — two CTAs reduce clicks CONSTRAINTS: Email body maximum 200 words. Every paragraph max 2 sentences — no walls of text. Subject line under 50 characters. Preview text (max 85 characters) must extend the subject line, not repeat it. EDITABLE VARIABLES: • [PRODUCT_NAME] — what you're launching • [CORE_BENEFIT] — the single most compelling outcome the product delivers • [TARGET_AUDIENCE] — who on your list this is most for • [URGENCY_REASON] — the genuine reason to act now (e.g. "introductory price ends Friday", "first 100 customers only") • [SOCIAL_PROOF] — beta users, pre-orders, or early results you can mention OUTPUT FORMAT: Subject line (with character count) Preview text (max 85 chars) Opening (emotional/narrative — 2 sentences) Core benefit (1–2 sentences) Supporting benefit bullets (2–3 short bullets) Social proof (1 sentence) Urgency + CTA (2 sentences + button text) P.S. (optional — one sentence reinforcing urgency or adding another hook) QUALITY BAR: A subscriber who opens this email and reads the first 3 sentences should already have their cursor moving toward the CTA. If they need to read to the end to understand why they should click, the email needs rewriting.

Why this prompt works

Limiting to one CTA and capping every paragraph at two sentences are the two structural rules that most directly impact launch email performance. The 'preview text must extend, not repeat' instruction is the single most overlooked email optimisation — it's free extra real estate in the inbox.

Tips for best results

  • Send a plain-text version as well as HTML — plain text feels more personal and often gets higher open rates from warm lists
  • The P.S. is statistically one of the most-read parts of an email — put your urgency or second-strongest hook there, not a throwaway note
  • Send a 'last chance' follow-up email 24 hours before the offer ends — it typically generates 25–40% of total launch revenue
  • Test two subject lines on a 20% sample each before sending to your full list — launch day is not the moment to guess
